Here comes the long-awaited summer months of pure excitement filled days. I’m sure you already have your swimsuits ready. Or for those like me, you are ready for those car shows and road trips with your car crew. However, with the hot summer months comes another hard challenge. How do you ensure your car maintains its shine especially with the hot sun?

With that in mind, car detailing is the best way to keep your car looking at her best. If you don’t know anything about detailing, then this article is at your best interest. I’ve had my fair share of car experiences and I know how it feels when your beast loses that showroom shine. It’s heart-breaking. You just don’t feel the same. Oh! I forgot to mention you’re dropping the percent of necks you break by 50%!

 What does car detailing mean?

Simply put, it’s basically top-to-bottom immaculate cleaning of your car with specific tools. Transform your car from “What the...” to “Woahh! Check that out!” In most cases, the detailer will perform some minor cosmetic touch-ups but it doesn’t involve car repairs or paintwork of the entire car.

Car detailing mainly entails cleaning the interior and exterior of your car to give the car its original new look. The main aim is to try and restore the underlying paintwork by swirling marks and eliminating scratches so that your car becomes as good as new. After the work is complete, your car will be ready for showroom display since every imperfection will be vacuumed out, polished or buffed!

 

So what is the difference between a car wash and car detailing?

Now that you understand what auto detailing really means, I’m sure you’ve probably dismissed it because it almost sounds as car washing. Wrong! Car wash only entails a fraction of what happens when you go for an auto detailing job.

A simple car wash can be performed by using your hands or using a machine to wash off all the dirt on your car with soap and water at a quarter time wash, or drive thru wash. Aside from the cost, a car wash only achieves a fraction of what a car detailing job will achieve. On top of that, a car wash will ca damage your paint and leave swirls from abrasive materials in the brush and sponges. On the other hand, auto detailing is restorative and will return your car to its former glory.

 

How to Detail your Car?

When it comes to car detailing, pretty much every detailer has their own approach. All in all, the standard process includes relatively the same things. That is; to thoroughly clean every inch of the exterior and interior parts of the car. Although different companies will differ in their approach to car detailing, at the end of the day, they use the same tools to get to that sparkling finish.

Exterior Car Detailing

Without a doubt, the main thing anyone will notice about your car is the exterior. That is why every detailer will dedicate much of their time and effort to the body of the car in order to ensure that it looks its best. As good as it looked when it was brand new.

The detailer will work on vacuuming, surpassing and restoring the initial condition of the exterior components of the vehicle. This includes the wheels, the windows, and tires among other visible exterior components. Some of the products that are used during exterior detailing include; wax, detergents, polishes, as well as greasers among others.

Common exterior Detailing Processes include;

• Washing and drying; this is the most basic step in exterior car detailing. And unlike car washing, this is done by hand. First, you spray a special highly powdered detergent on the exterior parts of the car which should be followed by hand washing of the door jambs, rims, glass and other exterior parts that will need cleaning.

 

• Claying; after the handwashing, a clay bar is used to remove any impurities or even tough residues that can be hard to remove using the normal detergents. The clay bar can also be used to remove any traces of overspray on the vehicle.

 

• Polishing; the polish of the car fades away after a certain period of time. That is why this step is dedicated purely to restoring the original shine of your car.

 

• Sealing; this is the last and most crucial step of car detailing. In this step, your car is given that glossy shine you desire. In this case, wax or a sealant is applied.

 

Interior Car Detailing

The outer beauty of any car is no comparison to inner beauty to many. But, it comes with no surprise that the inner car detailing will drastically take up more time than the exterior counterpart. The dirty air from your exhaust spreads all the way to your cabin. This causes switches to fail and also result in hazy windows which obscures the view of the driver.

Therefore, cleaning the interior of your car is more than just the simple soap and water routine. Depending on your detailer, there are different ways through which he or she will clean the interior of your car. All in all, the standard process include:

• Glass cleaning:you can use a glass cleanser to clean up the windows of your car both the inside and the outside. This will ensure that the glass remains sparkling clean. Therefore, the driver will not have any obstructions.

 

• Vacuuming: in some cases, this is usually the first step in interior car detailing. The detailer will vacuum the seats, rear cargo area, headliners, shelf and trunk. The floor mats are usually vacuumed differently to get the best results. The detailer can also use an air compressor to reach those difficult places that your vacuum can’t reach.

 

• Leather trimming: here, the detailer will use a leather or saddle soap to clean the leather parts. A damp cloth can also be used to remove the excess soap. Additionally, you can use a customized conditioner to clean the leather when it’s dry. This will ensure the cleaning process is more efficient.

 

• Steam and Brush Cleaning: this is the procedure that’s typically used to clean mats and carpets. Scrubbing is done on the mats before removing any spots or dirt on the mat. You can use a steam cleaner just to be more effective. But remember that the mats and carpets should remain outside until they dry.

 

• Wiping and Re-vacuuming: this is actually the most important part. Here any dirt that might have been left during the initial processes is removed. The windows and the dashboard should be wiped clean using a clean cloth. This will ensure the car regains its original state.

 

• Perfuming:though not common, some detailers will finish off the whole process with by using deodorant to give your car a nice scent.
